What is Progressive Persuasion?

Progressive Persuasion is about building a community of progressives, liberals, and like-minded left-wingers who are interested in improving their persuasive skills, through blogging, podcasting, public speaking, etc.

Public Speaking? You mean like Toastmasters?

Yes, indeed. In fact, the idea of Progressive Persuasion took shape after I’d spent a few years in Toastmasters, and wondered why the Toastmasters educational program lacked both an emphasis on political applications and modern research into psychology.

My original idea was to start a new Toastmasters club where people could work on their political speeches and make them more persuasive.

However, I myself enjoy writing as much as or more than practicing public speaking in a Toastmasters club, and blogs and podcasts can last longer and reach a wider audience than most speeches.

My current idea, then, is to start a blog as well as a Toastmasters club here in Austin, Texas.
